Most of us know how annoying seagulls can be if there is any hint of food being available. There are a lot of gulls hanging out in the central shopping area at Rottnest. They didn’t really bother us much but they did annoy the local peacock population.
The peacocks are also hanging around to see if they can pick up a few crumbs dropped from the tables throughout the area.
They are remarkably tame and just wander through the courtyard looking for anything that might be tasty.
(Click on the photos for a better look.)
They don’t take too kindly to other birds trying to take what they consider to be rightly theirs and so they put up their feathers and shake them wildly to scare away the seagulls.
Mind you, they’re not always scavenging for food. Sometimes they’re just hanging about in the nearby trees.
Peacocks can be seen in various places around the settlement at Rottnest and they’re just another reason that it’s such a wonderful place to spend some time.
We’re already looking forward to this time next year when we’ll visit Rottnest once again for another great family holiday.

I learnt the other day that Peacocks could fly!
I did mention making it to Rotto was on my “things to do list” I’m sure. Incidentally, in New Zealand I encountered a bird that steals more than just food.
