Back in yellow

Unless there are any major accidents on the final day of racing into Paris, Floyd Landis is about to achieve what most people, including myself, thought impossible. He will stand on the podium on today’s final stage of the Tour de France wearing the winners Yellow Jersey.

A few days back I wrote about the cruel nature of the tour and the fact that Landis had cracked while wearing yellow. He lost so much time that he dropped right out of the top 10. With just a few days left to race I was sure that any move he attempted in the coming days would be chased down by the rest of the main contenders. Not so.

The day after losing so much time Landis went on a now legendary breakaway and the peleton didn’t, or perhaps couldn’t, react. They just let him go and he put big time into the field, finishing the day back in 3rd place overall.

Yesterday’s time trial saw him set an amazing pace and put himself back into yellow.

I’m sure there’ll be a lot written about Floyd Landis in the days to come but if you’ve got a few minutes, you may like to take a look back as his Mennonite upbringing and read about his younger years which helped shape the man who will go down in history as the winner of one of the most interesting tours of all time.

  • I haven’t seen these two stages yet where Floyd Landis makes his big comeback. I have them on tape and am looking forward to watching them. It sounds like he put in an amazing feat to win.
