Knock 'em down

I see that the former Dean of Education at the University of Melbourne, Brian Caldwell, says Australia’s public schools are falling apart and that more and more people are turning to private schooling. He says that the poor design and condition of many public schools means that hundreds of them should be bulldozed and rebuilt.

When I think back to my school days I certainly think of the old and outdated buildings where we were taught. I guess that both my primary and high schools would be among the first to go if he got his way.

I’m sure that a lot of people would turn up to watch their old schools knocked over. I’d certainly be there to watch my old schools crumble. I’m not saying that I didn’t enjoy my school years but if they put the rights to drive the bulldozer on eBay, I’d certainly look at putting in a significant bid.

  • Rodney, no one wants a school to fall down around their children, but I am not so sure what design has to do with it.

Not that long ago, my mom was in a one room school house and you know what? They LEARNED.

I think a deeper issue is how things are being taught, attendance, and discipline.

From what I am hearing of the educational system (and its not that good what I am hearing), its the structure of the SYSTEM more than the buildings perhaps the government should be concerned with.

A subject close to my heart as someone I know can’t seem to have the school care that his children be educated in Warwick Senior High School.
