Every now and then you get to spend time with someone truly captivating. I had one of those opportunities today.
This afternoon I spent some time in the studio chatting with Henri Szeps. I’ll be playing our interview around 10:10 a.m. tomorrow Perth time (Wednesday) during my morning radio programme on 98.5 Sonshine FM.
I’ve interviewed people that may be more famous than Henri but rarely have I chatted with someone more interesting. Henri was born in Lausanne, Switzerland in a World War II refugee camp. He was shuttled between his mother in Paris and foster parents in Switzerland several times before migrating to Australia with his mother and sister in 1951, at the age of 8.
Since those early years Henri Szeps has become an acclaimed actor who in 2001 won a number of awards for his work as well as an Order of Australia Medal (OAM) for for service to the arts, and to the community.
He’s probably best known for playing the ‘other’ son in the wonderful television series Mother and Son. He was Robert the dentist.
Henri is in Perth touring his one man show Why Kids? Why Kids? tells more of the story of Henri’s life and in particular his life as a parent. Pauline and I will be heading off to see the show tomorrow night.
If you get a chance to listen in to the interview I’m sure that you’ll enjoy it. Even if you’ve never heard of Henri before you’ll be doing yourself a favour by listening in. If you’re in the Perth area you’ll find 98.5 Sonshine FM at 98.5 on your FM tuner. If you’re a little further away you can go to the website and listen on line.
