A different look at sport

My regular Friday morning discussion about sport was a little different today. I usually chat to sports journalist, Mic Cullen, about a range of sporting issues. We discuss what’s happened over the past week and what we can look forward to in the coming week.

Today’s different approach was due mainly to the fact that Mic is a very talented guy who is much in demand. As well as being a sports journalist, Mic is a part time announcer with 98.5 Sonshine FM. He has also recently taken up the position of Media Manager with local basketball team, the Perth Wildcats.

His new role with the Wildcats has taken him to Taiwan for a regional basketball competition. So, instead of our usual face to face discussion, Mic called in from Taipei, Taiwan’s capital.

It’s hard to be up to date with lots of Australian sport when you’re that far away so this morning we discussed basketball and Australian rules football or AFL. We mostly looked at how well both Western Australian AFL teams have been playing recently.

  • What a great job. I’ve loved the Wildcats since 1987. I hope he does a good job, because the Wildcats never seem to get much media attention anymore.

  • As Mic’s wife I have a biased view of how well he’ll do, but Mic does his best at everything or he doesn’t do it at all 🙂 Thanks for the podcast Rodney, someone rang me today to tell me Mic was on the radio but I couldn’t get to one to listen. Thank God for podcasting and Skype so I can talk to him in Tapei!

  • Just listened to the podcast – I’m famous!! 🙂

I was mainly interested in the quality of the line, which was pretty good considering where I was.

But man, I can go on! Given that our entire preperation was an SMS saying “we can’t get you, ring us” and then you saying “are you right to go in 10 seconds” “Yes” “OK, I’ll be back”, I think we did OK 🙂

  • You’re a pro, Mic, I knew you could handle the 10 second thing.

As it was, Ash was in the studio and he did the unchaining (stopping the computer from playing the next song)while I threw on my headphones.

    You were great.

  • I did wonder how you managed to do everything so quickly 🙂

And it’s a good thing I said nice things about the Dockers, given they beat Adelaide today!
