In my mind I had imagined him talking and laughing about his heart attack on ABC Radio in a month or so. I imagined the other broadcasters joking with him about it and suggesting that he give the gym a miss for a while. Sadly, that won’t be the case.
Earlier this afternoon, well loved, local sports commentator, Wally Foreman passed away in hospital. I learned the sad news via Mic’s blog. Mic knew Wally and confirms the generally held opinion that he was not only very good at his job but he was also a great guy.
This story from the ABC website says, Mr Foreman suffered a massive heart attack while working out at a gym on Tuesday morning and was taken to Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital in Perth, where he was placed in a medically induced coma.
He died today, aged 58.
ABC managing director Mark Scott has expressed his deepest sorrow at the loss of the renowned broadcaster.
One of Australia’s most experienced sports broadcasters, Mr Foreman worked in sports media for more than 30 years.
He attended four Olympic Games and five Commonwealth Games and also called international cricket, AFL football and Davis Cup and Australian Open tennis.
Mr Foreman was the inaugural director of the Western Australian Institute of Sport and was made a Member of the Order of Australia in 2003 for his services to sport.
He is survived by his wife Lyn and two sons.
