Ted Haggard faces gay accusations

In the lead up to a vote on changing the constitution in Colorado to define marriage as only between one man and one woman, one of the main proponents of the change has stepped down from ministry amid accusations of a gay affair.

Ted Haggard, pastor of New Life Church in Colorado Springs, which has a membership of around 14 000 people, has taken administrative leave from his church and resigned his position as president of America’s National Association of Evangelicals.

Male escort, Mike Jones, says he has evidence of a three year sexual business relationship, which included illegal drug use, with the strong opponent of gay marriage.

The father of five initially denied the accusation by saying, “I’ve never had a gay relationship with anyone. I’m steady with my wife. I’m faithful to my wife.”

A short time ago it was reported that Haggard has admitted some of the indiscretions but he hasn’t said which accusations he’s putting his hand up to.

  • As I’m sure you’ve heard by now, he admitted to calling the gay prostitute for a massage (but not sex) and buying meth from him (but not using it). Sad, sad story.

  • I read this article this morning and felt really sad.

I wonder how many christian men and women are going through the same thing.

I wonder how many christn men and women IN MINISTRY are going through the same thing.

Sometimes I wish there was something the church could do to address these issues more and create a safe enviornment for people to talk about their struggles!

I’m glad my church here in Australia does, but not back home 🙁

  • Pray for Ted and his family. Pray for his church. Pray for the man he was involved with. Pray that God would take this very ugly situation and make it into something good.
