Why is everything blurry?

A lot of the time when people talk about things just dropping in your lap it’s a good thing. When it’s the left lens of your reading glasses, it’s not so good.

I was at my desk at work a little while ago when I put my glasses on only to have a lens make a leap for the desk then into my lap. I took my glasses off again and tried to see what had happened. Unfortunately, without my glasses I could only see the fuzzy outline of some spectacles in my hand.

I then used the fallen lens as a monocle to survey the situation. It looked like I was missing one of those tiny little screws.

I got up very carefully, all the time looking for anything dropping to the ground. Nothing.

Have you ever tried wearing reading glasses with just one lens? Weird stuff. I could have tried making it through the day with one eye working but I just know I would have eneded up with a headache pretty quickly.

Seeing as I was about to begin my radio program I knew that there wasn’t time to go anywhere to get the glasses fixed and my eyes are so bad these days I didn’t like the idea of broadcasting all moring without being able to read. I was just in the process of asking someone to take the glasses to the nearest optometrist when they spotted something interesting. The screw wasn’t missing. It was just too small for me to see, even with my monocle.

Thankfully everything’s back together and I can see again.

It really seems like such a short time ago that I had remarkably good eyesight. I could read tiny, tiny print and I could read signs way off in the distance that other people couldn’t even see. Sadly that’s no longer the case. Age continues to take its toll.

As I look around me I require reading glasses plus the aid of a super magnifying glass for those bits of tiny, tiny print. O.k., maybe the tiny tiny print isn’t even really all that tiny. It just seems to be getting smaller and smaller.

And … what’s with the telephone book print becoming smaller each year.

Thanks for the reminder I’m not alone,

    • Thanks for dropping in, Maddy.

Unfortunately it’s not just the eyes.

I keep wondering when all those LOUD concerts I went to back in the 80s will start catching up with me. 🙂
