Anniversary Dinner

On Friday night we headed off to Fremantle for a very enjoyable dinner to celebrate our eleven years of marriage.

We dropped the kids at Pauline’s parents place and then continued down the highway to find some place to eat.

We wound up at a smorgasbord. It was great just being a couple for a while. The food was great, company even better. Pauline feasted on prawns while I went for a good curry (among other things). I don’t mind prawns but I don’t think I should have to work so hard shelling the buggers to get my dinner, so I don’t.

After dinner we wandered around Fremantle Markets. I resisted the urge to tell the clairvoyant and her customer to ‘cut it out’. We looked at all the weird and wonderful stuff that the market sells and then headed off to get the kids back.

It was a very low key but wonderful evening.

"We Got Him"

The US has finally got their prize – Saddam Hussein.

It’s hard to know how to feel about the capture. This man obviously needs to be brought to justice, but whose justice will it be?

Will ‘the coalition’ hand him over to the Iraqi people to be tried and sentenced? I doubt it. I imagine they’ll want to ensure that Saddam gets the punishment they think he deserves.

One of the saddest things is that the capture will be seen by many through the eyes of political advantage. Bush’s political opposition have been pushing the line that the US forces couldn’t even capture Saddam. Now it’ll be Bush’s turn to score cheap political points. And I’m sure that the polls will now swing towards Bush and, here in Australia, back towards Howard to some degree, just because one man has been arrested.

I Need Love

I was very surprised this evening to hear a familiar song coming from the television. I headed into our family room just in time to see that they were using an old Sam Philips (formerly Leslie Philips) song to back an ad for perfume or something.

Strange choice of song I thought.

They were playing a couple of grabs from her 1994 song I Need Love.

I love the lyrics of the song. (By now you’ve probably guessed that I get into lyrics in a big way.)

I NEED LOVE [Sam Philips]

I left my conscience like a crying child

Locked the doors behind me put the pain on file

Broken like a window I see my blindness now

I need love

Not some sentimental prison

I need God

Not the political church

I need fire

To melt the frozen sea inside me

I need love

Driving into town tired and depressed

Like a flare the streetlight bursts an S.O.S.

Peace comes to my rescue I don’t know what it means

I need love

Not some sentimental prison

I need God

Not the political church

I need fire

To melt the frozen sea inside me

I need love

What an Achievement

Our little girl was presented with the Achievement Award for Year 2. The Achievement Award is the highest award for each year group. She was given the Achievement Award for Year 1 last year.

I guess I don’t need to tell you that we’re incredibly proud.
