Farwewell Bud Tingwell

Bud.jpgMuch loved Australian actor Charles “Bud” Tingwell passed away from complications with prostate cancer this morning. He was in a Melbourne hospital with his son and daughter by his side. He was 86.

His death is a sad loss to the Australian entertainment industry.

From serious film roles dating back to the mid 40s to his work in a number of television and movie comedies, he was a well known face both in Australia and around the world.

In the later 1960s, he performed various minor voice roles for the Gerry Anderson shows Thunderbirds and Captain Scarlet as well as appearing in the first series of cult television show Catweazle.

Among credits too numerous to mention Bud appeared in over 100 films. He was well known as Inspector Reg Lawson on the long running Australian television series Homicide. After Homicide he took on a number of small roles in major Australian films, such as Breaker Morant, Puberty Blues and All The Rivers Run.

He will be missed by several generations of Australians.

Robin Williams suffering heart problems

57 year old Oscar winning actor and comedian Robin Williams is is reported to be in the intensive care unit of a Miami hospital with heart issues.

The Miami Herald is reporting that Williams has recently postponed all four performances of his one-man show in Florida in their story Robin Williams in South Florida hospital.

A media release on his website says that doctors are advising rest.

Robin Williams has postponed four upcoming performances of his one-man comedy show entitled “Weapons of Self-Destruction.” The comedian was scheduled to perform at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Florida on Wednesday, March 4th, and Thursday, March 5th, at the UCF Arena in Orlando, Florida on Friday, March 6th and at the Sundome in Tampa, Florida on Saturday, March 7th. Williams was experiencing shortness of breath and is currently being evaluated by doctors who are recommending a week of rest.

I’ve enjoyed his work over many years. He has an amazing talent for comedy but perhaps my favourite role from Williams was in the very dark 2004 movie The Final Cut. It’s certainly not a cheery film but it does leave you thinking through the issues it raises about how we remember people.

I’m sure that many people will be hoping and praying for a quick and full recovery.
