Tina Arena coming to Perth

Tina_Arena.jpgWe’ve known about Tina Arena’s enormous talent here in Australia for many years but even many Aussies would be unaware of her massive popularity in Europe, especially in France. Tina has also had great success in the U.K., Poland, Russia, and the Middle East.

She’ll be performing at the Perth Concert Hall on Wednesday 25th March and is sure to give fans a night of music to remember.

She joined me by phone on 98.5 Sonshine FM during my programme this morning.

You can hear what Tina had to say by clicking the play button on the audio player at the bottom of this post.

In December last year Tina Arena was awarded the prestigious ‘French Order Of Merit’ which will be presented to her by French President Sarkosky in an official ceremony next month. This is an award which is generally only to French nationals but Tina Arena has obviously made an impression.

As well as her recording and performing career, which takes her around the world, Tina is mum to a three year old son. Together with her husband they spend their time between France, London and her native Australia.

Tina’s current tour will see her perform in all of the mainland Australian capital cities with the exception of Adelaide and her Perth performance will be at the Perth Concert Hall on Wednesday 25th March, at 8:00 p.m.

Ana Laura in Perth

analaura.jpgHer classical training, fused with rock, pop and Latin sounds make Ana Laura one of the most unique performers in gospel music today.

Her music has been described as the merging of classical, traditional orchestral laced pop, with flashes of potent rock.

Ana invited us to take a glimpse into what the world can look like through the prism of faith and a plethora of musical styles, both modern and classic, on her self-titled debut album simply titled Ana Laura.

She describes herself as a walking contradiction. At one moment she’s self-assured, the next, skittish, quiet then projecting volume, grounded in reality then expressing whimsical ideas.

It was a real delight to have Ana join me in the studio yesterday during my radio programme on 98.5 Sonshine FM to talk about everything from her music and upcoming concerts to her love of American Idol.

Have a listen to our chat by clicking play on the audio player at the bottom of this post.

Australia Day 2008

Are you ready for Australia Day this Saturday?

We celebrate Australia Day on the 26th of January each year because it was that day in 1788 that Captain Arthur Phillip took formal possession of the colony of New South Wales and became its first Governor. The first official celebrations were held in 1818 to mark the 30th anniversary of white settlement.

If you want to find out more about Australia Day you can go to the official website here.

Watching fireworks on Australia Day has become a solid tradition in Perth but over the past few years many people have started looking for ways to avoid the parking hassles and find a family friendly event. Answering the call is the 98.5 Sonshine FM Town of Bassendean Australia Day Celebrations and Fireworks event which has built a reputation as a safe place to spend Australia Day with friends and family as well as providing a spectacular show.

If you’re in the Perth area it’d be great to catch up with you at Ashfield Reserve, Guldford Road, Ashfield, for the evening. It’s a great event that culminates in a massive fireworks display away from the big and sometimes rowdy crowds of the city fireworks. 98.5 Sonshine FM is proud to be providing the soundtrack and we’ll be broadcasting live from the venue from two o’clock on Saturday afternoon.

I’ll be joined on stage by my friend and colleague, Arthur Muhl, to MC the live entertainment which starts from 6:00 p.m. There’ll also be a citizenship ceremony. The fireworks will begin lighting up the skies at 9:00 p.m.

If you want to enjoy some great entertainment in a more relaxed family atmosphere, without having to wait hours in traffic on the way home, come on down.

Either way, make sure that you’ve got some plans in place to celebrate.
