I was reading this morning that shops in the Perth suburbs of Joondalup, Gwelup and Carlisle have all been caught out by people passing off fake fifty dollar notes. It would be such a terrible feeling to discover that something you considered valuable is of no value whatsoever.
Federal police have arrested a 30 year old man in relation to the counterfeits but there’s likely to be more out there. They say that the fake notes feel a lot more papery and they lack the watermark in the transparent window of the note.
I’m glad that we’re being told what to look out for but it’s been so long since I’ve handled a real fifty dollar note, I don’t know if I’d be able to pick a fake.
