1 sleep until Toy Story 3

It’s just 1 more sleep before Australia starts heading to cinemas to see Toy Story 3.

No toy gets left behind.

I’ve seen some great reviews from those who have already seen the movie, including Rove McManus saying on Twitter, “Go see Toy Story 3. Seriously, you will love it…even if you have no child..no heart…hate animation..and cinemas give you hives. Just go!”

The movie opened in the US on the weekend and took a record $109 million. Toy Story 3 became the first Disney/Pixar release to top $100 million in its opening weekend.

The creators of the beloved Toy Story films re-open the toy box and bring moviegoers back to the delightful world of Woody, Buzz and our favourite gang of toy characters in Toy Story 3. Woody and Buzz had accepted that their owner Andy would grow up someday, but what happens when that day arrives?

In the third instalment, Andy is preparing to depart for college, leaving his loyal toys troubled about their uncertain future. Lee Unkrich (co-director of Toy Story 2 and Finding Nemo) directs this highly anticipated film, and Michael Arndt, the Academy Award®-winning screenwriter of Little Miss Sunshine, brings his unique talents and comedic sensibilities to the proceedings.

We’ll be heading along sometime soon. The Toy Story movies never dissapoint and many are saying this is the best yet.

I’m sure that we’ll be heading along for the third installment. Our kids grew up on Toy Story and Toy Story 2.

Make the Call

Old TelephoneWhat are you like at making phone calls? Do you sometimes forget to make important calls?

Sometimes forgetting to make a phone call or two can bring unwanted results.

Did you hear that a filmmaker is a little red faced after New York police officers were summoned to what they thought was an armed robbery, but turned out to be a location shoot for his upcoming movie?

Apparently Fred Carpenter was filming inside a shop in a scene where a gunman takes a number of people hostage. Someone passing the shop thought it was the real thing and called police.

Thankfully it all ended peacefully but the director was quite surprised when more than a dozen officers stormed into the scene. He admitted that it was his fault. He should have phoned police before the event to tell them what he was planning to do.

So what phone calls do you need to make today?

The Spirituality of Avatar

AvatarI’m probably the only person on the planet who is yet to see Avatar. I was at the cinema to see Old Dogs on Sunday afternoon and the queue for Avatar went half way across the city. Well maybe not … but it was a very long queue.

I don’t know if I’ll get around to seeing Avatar but I’ve certainly heard conflicting reports about the spirituality presented in the movie. Some say that there is a strong messianic theme to the movie while others talk about the strong pantheistic themes.

We need to keep in mind that the movie is the work of James Cameron who not only brought us the blockbuster Titanic, but also the documentary The Lost Tomb of Jesus, claiming that a tomb containing the bodies of Jesus and other members of his family had been discovered. Cameron is certainly a spiritual person who is critical of the beliefs of Christianity, leaning more towards a belief of universal energy.

My regular Wednesday morning guest on 98.5 Sonshine FM is Ross Clifford who is the Principal of Morling College in New South Wales and Vice President elect of the Baptist World Alliance. Each week we chat about a range of issues relating to spirituality and belief.

We discussed the spirituality of Avatar today, highlighting the various themes it presents.
