Riders Choice Perth Criteriums 2009

IF YOU’RE LOOKING FOR INFORMATION ON THE TOUR DE PERTH (13th to 15th NOVEMBER) YOU’LL FIND DETAILS HERE.

crit.jpgThere’ll be some excellent cycle racing around Perth from Friday the 23rd to Monday the 26th of January.

Riders Choice Perth Criteriums 2009 is on its way with some spectacular racing around various Perth street circuits. The series is being run by the team at TriEvents and promises to be a highlight of the Australia Day long weekend. I’m looking forward to once again being part of the commentary team with Gary Suckling of Riders Choice. Gary is such a professional and it’s a real honour to work alongside him.

Criterium racing is the most exciting version of road racing. Each race involves high speed and intense competition, around a tight and intimate circuit. No rider is guaranteed a win and no spectator walks away disappointed, which sets the scene for a perfect week end of racing.

Perth Criteriums does not only focus on elite male cyclists. The aim of the series is to help build the profile of up and coming junior and female cyclists. Cyclists can participate in teams, with the opportunity to also win prize money at the conclusion of each race and the series.

Perth Criteriums is made up of four events over four days. The events are afternoon / evening races in four high profile locations – Joondalup, Leederville, Victoria Park and Perth.

The first event of the series gets underway at 6:00 p.m. in Joondalup on Friday the 23rd of January.

Western Australians are great supporters of this kind of cycle racing and there’s sure to be plenty of spectators watching each event. There have been a number of Perth Criterium Series over the years and they’ve all been nail biting spectator events. If you get a chance, get out and enjoy some fantastic racing.

Cities in 2008

Tony Sheng has been to quite a few cities this year.

I can’t boast the sixteen cities he can, but with my trips this year I can list a few. Several of my visits were just airport lounges rather than the cities themselves but I’ll take what I can get.

  1. Perth, Western Australia, Australia
  2. Sydney, New South Wales, Australia
  3. Los Angeles, California, USA
  4. Miami, Florida, USA
  5. Port au Prince, Haiti
  6. Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic
  7. Brisbane, Queensland, Australia

So there you are. Seven. Better than most years for me but still not even close to Tony’s sixteen.

How many cities did you visit in 2008?

Wes Carr in Perth

WesCarr.jpgWes Carr is getting used to being in the spotlight.

Certainly no stranger to performing, Wes has been writing and playing his own music for year, but after winning the 2008 series of Australian Idol, he’s receiving a lot more attention.

On the first day his debut single, You, was available for download, it was number 1 on the iTunes track chart with almost two and a half thousand downloads which made the single Sony Music’s biggest track download ever in one day.

While winning the number one spot in Australian Idol has never been a guarantee of future success, you kind of get the feeling that we’re going to be hearing from Wes Carr for a long time to come.

Wes was my guest today during my Morning Programme on 98.5 Sonshine FM. It was a real pleasure to chat to him on the phone this morning while he was in Perth for a promotional visit. He promises to return for a concert next year after his album is released.

If you want to hear what Wes had to say this morning when I spoke to him, just click the play button on the audio player at the bottom of this post.

Summertime … and the living is easy

sunflower.jpgAre you ready for summer? Whether you are or not, it’s officially arrived here in Australia. The warmer months are now upon us.

Already throughout spring we’ve seen more people in shorts and t-shirts but we need to get ready to see more white legs making an appearance for the first time since last summer. My cyclists’ tan is coming along nicely. My brown arms stop where my cycling shirt starts and my legs have a similar thing going on with the very white bits suddenly turning very brown where my shorts end. By the end of summer I’m sure the difference will be even more pronounced. I could always try to tan the white bits but a cyclists’ tan is a badge of honour.

I’m sure that BBQs are being wheeled out everywhere and their gas bottles being filled, air conditioners being serviced. Summer has arrived and we’re getting ready for some scorching hot days.

A white Christmas is the last thing we’re ever likely to experience here, unless it’s the magnificent, white, sandy beaches along our coast.

How’s the weather where you are? Is it getting hotter or colder right now?
