McHappy Day 2008

I’ll be putting on the apron and selling a few Big Macs tomorrow.

No, it’s not a way of supplementing my income. I won’t even be getting paid.

Saturday the 15th of November is McHappy Day, an annual event that raises funds for Ronald McDonald House Charities to help seriously ill children live happier, healthier lives.

Each year local media, sporting, political and community personalities are asked to get involved by serving behind the counter or collecting money from those in the restaurants. I’ve helped out at McHappy Day several times in the past and I’m looking forward to getting involved again.

I’m certainly no celebrity but it’s nice to be asked to help out as part of my work at 98.5 Sonshine FM.

From 10:30 to 11:30 tomorrow morning I’ll be at McDonalds in Tuart Hill on the corner of Waneroo Road and Morley Drive, so if you’re in the area please drop in and say hello. They have a great McCafe if you want to drop in for a coffee.

I’ll be teaming up with my Friday morning radio guest, Jill Bonanno, so it should be a very entertaining time to be at Maccas. I’ll post some photos here after the event.

Cotton Top Tamarin

CottonTopTamarin.jpgIf I’d clicked a couple of seconds earlier he would have been looking right at me.

In last week’s post, Zootopia, I wrote about the incredible experience of going behind the scenes at Perth Zoo.

We managed to get some great photos during our close encounter. This is one of my favourites. Even thought I didn’t quite capture the Cotton Top Tamarin looking at the camera, I reckon it’s a great shot. I wonder what would happen if I started wearing my hair like that.

I’ll dig out some of the other pictures for you to see in the coming days.

Perth Zoo offers several Close Encounters with the animals and if you enjoy spending time with animals I’d encourage you to look at the packages they have available.

Of course the attractions of the Perth Zoo may only really interest you if you’re in Western Australia but how long has it been since you visited your local zoo? Are you an animal lover? What kind of zoo animals are your favourites? Do you make a point of visiting other zoos if you’re visiting another city?

FAST for FOOD – Day Fourteen

Fast_for_Food.jpg

We’re now into the second week of FAST for FOOD which runs throughout November and is a response to the Global Food Crisis that is threatening millions of lives.

If this is the first you’ve heard of this initiative of Compassion you can read my earlier posts. Every 7 Seconds … and FAST for FOOD Explained.

Each day throughout November I’m posting a short Bible passage from the FAST for FOOD Calendar.

There is a theme for each week of the month and a passage to read as a focus of prayer.

The theme of week two is – RESPOND.

Ask God to show us clearly how He wants each of us to respond to the great need all around.

DAY 14 – John 5:14–15 – Ask God Confidently

This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of him.
