Aussie Green Thumb Returns

green_thumb.jpgOne of the big benefits of moving house last year is that we now have a much smaller garden.

I like having a nice garden … but I’m certainly not a gardener. I’m better at killing plants than helping them thrive. I don’t try to kill plants, it’s just a natural talent.

Thankfully there are people like James Middleton who are ready with excellent advice to help your garden grow. James has just re-launched his gardening website AussieGreenThumb.com. It’s the place to go to pick up all kinds of hints for your garden. However, if you’re more like me and you know that all the advice in the world won’t help, James is available to do the work for you at a reasonable rate. At the moment he is only doing gardening work in Perth, Western Australia, but I’m sure if you paid his travel and accommodation costs he’d be happy to travel. 🙂

Hello, my name is James Middleton and I want to warmly welcome you to my re-launch of AussieGreenThumb.com. Back in 2007 I started this website, offering hints, tips and traps for fellow Australian Gardeners with a particular focus on Australian Native Plants. This will still be my focus as we kick off again!

My belief is that everybody can have a good garden.

At AussieGreenThumb.com I promote both gardening yourself OR hiring professionals to take care of your gardening for you. This is why my philosophy is ‘a gardening lifestyle, today and tomorrow’. What this means is I believe anyone can start to improve their garden whenever ‘today’ is, with an outlook to having an even better garden on every ‘tomorrow’. Whether this be by improving your own gardening skills OR by employing a gardener to keep things looking green is your decision.

Why not check out AussieGreenThumb.com and tell James I sent you.

Salvos helping fire victims

salvation_army.jpgFire can cause such devastation. Last week a huge fire near Toodyay, 85 kilometres north east of Perth, destroyed significant property including 38 houses. Thankfully no human lives were lost.

Initial assessments suggest fallen power lines caused the fire.

Dozens of families have lost everything. In the last couple of days they’ve been allowed back into the fire affected areas to see if anything remains of their homes. For many there is only heartbreak.

Thankfully the Salvos are already helping people in the area. You can help them to help others by donating online. If you’d like to show your support for those affected by the fires, click here.

Hiding beer, burgers and pizza

burger.jpgIf you’re a guy who’s put on a few extra kilograms over the Christmas break there is now a perfect solution … the Mirdle.

News.com.au has published a story which reports that a male girdle is ready to do big business for men who want a trimmer look without doing the work required to achieve it naturally.

The stretch cotton vest and T-shirt are said to reduce a man’s waistline by up to 5cm and will be available in the UK and online from January 7.

I’m certainly in favour of wearing flattering clothing but flattening clothing may just be taking things a bit far for me.

I will admit to putting on a little extra weight over the past couple of weeks but I’m now back on my bike and looking forward to reversing that trend. I managed to drop quite a few kilograms during 2009 and so I was dissapointed that I allowed myself to take a couple of steps back but I’m still happy to look at the big picture and work towards greater fitness again in 2010.

I’m not a fan of tight clothing and I don’t think I’d be prepared to sacrifice comfort for a slightly improved shape, especially when I would know that everything would head south as soon as I removed the Mirdle.

How about you? Do you reckon that it’s a reasonable idea? Is it the kind of thing that might give guys the extra confidence they need or is it cheating? Is it simply making the most of what we’ve got or pretending that we haven’t got that little bit extra?
