Would You Stop a Murder?

What would you do if you witnessed a murder in progress? Would you step in to help? Would you walk away?

The video above shows real reactions to people faced with that situation. The murder isn’t real, but it looks very real to those who stumble upon the stunt in a New York elevator performed by a couple of actors.

A movie network in the United States is using the apparently anonymous clip Elevator Murder Experiment as part of an advertising campaign.

Dead Man Down, a thriller starring Colin Farrell and Noomi Rapace, is due to be released in the United States this weekend.

The clip is the work of advertising firm Thinkmodo which produced a similar “teaser” clip for the release of The Last Exorcism last week. – News.com.au

So, would you step in? Even if it put you in some kind of danger?

I’m just hoping that some of those people who wandered off were going for help. I can’t imagine anyone just ignoring a life and death situation like that.

Royal Suite Guests in Right Royal Rip Off

I was reading this morning that the famous Waldorf Hotel in New York is asking past visitors to return items they’ve taken while staying in the prestigious hotel. Their Royal Suite will set you back $10 000 a night yet a spokesman says that items go missing from that suite quite regularly.

Over the years they’ve lost everything from cake forks to framed photos, a 60cm tall fluted crystal vase, commissioned in 1913 for the hotel’s 30th anniversary, and the shower doors from a suite once occupied by Frank Sinatra.

COUPLES who stay in the Waldorf’s Royal Suite pay $10,000 a night for a room once occupied by the Duke and Duchess of Windsor. Across the hallway, 42 floors above Park Avenue, is the residence of the US ambassador to the United Nations.

Guests rest their heads on pillows embroidered with images of the Duchess’s pugs, and in the morning many decide to steal something.

“We lose items out of that suite quite regularly,” said Matt Zolbe, a spokesman for the hotel, who was discussing this delicate matter over an iced tea in the hotel bar. “The framed photographs of the Duke and Duchess walk ridiculously easily, but that’s representative of what we are talking about.” – The Australian

They’re currently running an amnesty for the return of items, especially those taken between 1930 and 1960 for a display of the hotel’s history. They’ve already had a silver coffee pot, a soup tureen and about a dozen other items, sent in the post.

I’m wondering if you’ve ever slipped something into your bag when checking out of a hotel. I know that some people like to take towels or other bits and pieces but I could never do something like that. I’ve certainly come away with pens and a the occasional mini soap or shampoo bottle but I’ve never taken anything I wasn’t meant to take. How about you?

What’s the one thing you can’t live without?

You can often discover what people truly value when you find out what means the most to them. What is it that we believe we can’t live without?

More 4 Me is a documentary that follows film maker Lincoln Fenner of Creation Box Films through 7 countries across 5 continents as he asks everyone from actors and models to orphans and street sweepers the same simple question; “What’s the one thing you can’t live without?”

Are people in places like New York, London, Los Angeles and even Perth really that different from those living in a Kenyan orphanage, the slums of Nairobi or a remote Cambodian village? Is life really all about getting More 4 Me? Lincoln joined me in the studio this morning on 98.5 Sonshine FM.

Lincoln has been making films since 1999. His 2005 short film Another Chance was part of the Official Selection at the New York International Independent Film and Video Festival and it screened in Manhattan that same year.

He holds a Diploma in Film Making (2001-2002) from the New York Film Academy (where he studied at their Universal Studios, Los Angeles school). In 2000, he graduated in London’s West End with a Foundation Certificate from Panico Films (now London Film Academy).

We spoke about the film and about the many answers people give to that one simple question. You can hear our conversation by clicking the play button on the audio player at the bottom of this post.

What would your answer be? What is the one thing that you couldn’t live without?

I’d love to hear from you. Please leave a comment or two in the comments section of this post.

Make the Call

Old TelephoneWhat are you like at making phone calls? Do you sometimes forget to make important calls?

Sometimes forgetting to make a phone call or two can bring unwanted results.

Did you hear that a filmmaker is a little red faced after New York police officers were summoned to what they thought was an armed robbery, but turned out to be a location shoot for his upcoming movie?

Apparently Fred Carpenter was filming inside a shop in a scene where a gunman takes a number of people hostage. Someone passing the shop thought it was the real thing and called police.

Thankfully it all ended peacefully but the director was quite surprised when more than a dozen officers stormed into the scene. He admitted that it was his fault. He should have phoned police before the event to tell them what he was planning to do.

So what phone calls do you need to make today?
