Emily, we miss you

qantasjumbo.jpgEmily might have turned 12 last week but she’s still our little girl, so it wasn’t easy to wave goodbye at the airport on Saturday.

She headed off with her classmates and students from two other local schools for a five hour flight to begin a week long trip to Sydney and Canberra.

I think they’re visiting Toronga Zoo today. Yesterday it was Sydney Harbour Bridge and Sydney Tower. Within the next few days she’ll be visiting Federal Parliament in Canberra as well as lots of other attractions.

The tour involves just over 100 Year 7 students and a group of teachers.

I know that they would have been well behaved but I really did feel for the other passengers on the flight. The looks on their faces were priceless as more and more excited children wandered into the departure area and the realisation hit them that they’d be on the same plane. I hope none of them were hoping for a quiet flight.

Another School Year Over

Today Emily finished Year Six and James completed Year Three at school.

I had the privilege of being at their final assembly for the year this afternoon. The final assembly is traditionally the time where the outstanding students from each year level are recognised for their work throughout the year.

When the Year Three teacher stepped up on stage we listened intently. James has previously received the Academic Achievement Award for both Year One and Year Two and always makes us extremely proud of his efforts. Today he added the Year Three Achievement Award to his collection.

A short while later Emily’s teacher stepped up to the microphone.Emily has previously won the Achievement Award, the highest academic award for each year level, in Years One, Two, Three and Five. Today she received the Acheivement Award for Year Six. It’s hard to believe she only has one year left of primary school.

On top of her Achievement Award, Emily was given a certificate for her outstanding work in English and she was named as one of the School Councillors for next year.

Looks like both Emily and James deserve a good break during these summer holidays. They have made both Pauline and me extremely proud yet again.

Let's Party

It’s a week of partying at school.

Emily and James had a small party yesterday with the other kids who have been learning piano throughout the year. The class parties are happening through the week and then holidays begin on Friday afternoon. Hard to believe another school year is over.

I imagine that there won’t be too much work being done in schools this week.

Do you remember the final week of school back when you were young? It was always pretty cruisey. Of course, if you hadn’t worked hard enough during the term there was always the sting of the school report in that week but it was generally pretty good.

I think final week celebrations was my favourite subject at school.

So Year 6 is over for Emily. When school begins again in February she’ll start her final year of primary school. Where have the years gone? James will move from Year 3 to Year 4.

I’m hoping to get away early on Friday afternoon to be at their final assembly for the year to see another year close.
