I want my …

There was an article in yesterday’s West Australian newspaper about the launch of MTV 25 years ago today.

It talked about some of the musicians that were on the playlist of the music video TV channel all those years ago.

It seems like only yesterday when this amazing new concept emerged and hit television screens in the US and some time later here in Australia but MTV is now part of the establishment.

I wonder what all the pop stars from 25 years ago are doing now. Some of them are still making music while others have faded from view. I guess one things for sure, none of them are getting any younger, which makes it rather interesting to see that the other article on the same page of the newspaper was about a new arthritis drug. Rather appropriate I thought.

It's getting hotter …. slowly

It’s nice to know that scorching hot days and balmy Summer evenings are just around the corner. At least that’s the case if you believe the catalogues I pulled from our letterbox this morning.

One of them was telling me about Spring fashions, fair enough, Spring’s officially only a month away here in Australia, but another one was telling me that I should go out and buy lots of clothes now to be ready for Summer. Seems a little strange to be getting ready for Summer when we’re only two thirds the way through Winter.

A shop I was in a couple of days ago was clearing their Winter stock.

I know that we need to prepare for things before they happen but really, do we have to be living that far in advance? Can’t we just live in the moment?

When the sun starts getting a little warmer and the days get longer, I’ll prepare for Spring. When it gets warmer still, I’ll know that Summer is on it’s way and I’ll start wearing shorts again. Just as well I have all my Summer clothes from last year. By the time the hot weather reaches us I probably won’t be able to buy any Summer clothes because our shops will be filled with Winter stock.

Why the surprise?

We went to a preview of the new Australian movie, Kenny, tonight. More on that later.

Why is it that at any movie preview, you will always find people walking into the cinema five or more minutes after the scheduled start time, looking very, very surprised and/or annoyed that the best seats are already taken?

Here’s a hint: If you don’t like sitting in the front couple of rows and putting an unnatural bend in your neck trying to see all the action; if you don’t like coming in a group of four and finding that there are no longer four seats available together in the cinema, try turning up on time or even 15 or 20 minutes before the scheduled start time like the rest of us do.
