More beautiful every day

14 years ago today I married the most wonderful lady I have ever known.

Since then my love has continued to grow and Pauline has become more and more beautiful in so many ways.

I can’t even begin to imagine what life would have been like if I hadn’t met Pauline. She makes my life richer, fuller, better in a variety of ways.

I continue to thank God for her and the part she plays in my life.

Today I recommit myself to loving her more fully and to making every effort to be more and more the husband I should be. I don’t deserve anyone so precious but I am so glad that 14 years ago we both said, “I do.”

Proud parents

On Friday Emily finished Year Five and James completed Year Two at school.

I had the privilige of being at their final assembly for the year on Friday afternoon. The final assembly is traditionally the time where the outstanding students from each year level are recognised for their work throughout the year.

When the Year Two teacher stepped up on stage we listened intently. Last year James had received the Academic Achievement Award for Year One and had made us extremely proud of his efforts.

His teacher started to speak. “This award is presented to a student who is enthusiastic and shows a positive attitude to their work. This person has achieved high marks through all their schoolwork, and always presents work of high quality. The Year Two Achievement Award is presented to James Olsen.”

I wiped the tears from my eyes but I couldn’t wipe the smile from my face.

A short while later Emily’s teacher stepped up to the microphone. “This Person always applies 100% effort to her work. She strives for excellence and very often achieves it. She thoroughly deserves this Year 5 Academic Award. Well done Emily Olsen!”

Emily had previously won the Achievement Award, the highest academic award for each year level, three years running in Years One, Two and Three.

Looks like both Emily and James deserve a good break during these summer holidays. They have made both Pauline and me extremely proud yet again.

I'm a dancin' maniac

There is a rumour that I’m not a very good dancer.

I’ll admit that it’s difficult to get me up on the dance floor but sometimes you’ve just got to get involved in the spirit of the occasion.

I was recently overcome with the whole festive season thing. You can click here to see me enjoying some fancy Christmas footwork.

Thanks to Joshua for the ‘dance lessons’.

Ever wanted to shoot your family?

Is the urge even stronger around this time of year?

With the incredibly fast pace of life these days, many families find that the only time they’re all, or mostly, together is around the Christmas table. That makes Christmas time the perfect opportunity to update your family photo. But how do you manage to shoot photos that will look good enough to frame and display on a shelf or a wall?

Every so often I get to catch up with Nathan Archer, who as well as being a very fine photographer, is a great guy.

We caught up on Thursday and chatted on the radio about everything from choosing a digital camera to making this year’s family snap look a little more professional. We also took a couple of listeners’ questions regarding photos.

If you’d like a few photography hints, just click here and listen to our discussion.

Dancing with the 'sports' stars

The video quality isn’t the greatest. The audio certainly isn’t surround sound stereo. But this video of fellow blogger Dave is still very much worth a look.

The video is of Dave’s comedy debut and as with a lot of good comedy he starts off slowly and just keeps building to a very funny close. It’s also clean so you don’t have to send the kids out of the room in case they see or hear anything nasty.
