Remembering Radiothon 2012

We finished 98five Sonshine FM’s Radiothon yesterday with a total of $169 519. Even though Radiothon is officially over for 2012, we believe the total will rise a little in the coming days.

While we didn’t reach our target of $175 000, our supporters gave everything they could to achieve over 95% of our goal. We were humbled by the continued generosity of our supporters towards securing our financial future.

If you’d still like to give you can give online, or call the 98five Sonshine FM office during the week on 9313 0800.

In the mean time, check out a selection of photos of a handful of the people I spoke to during the past week and click on any photos you’d like to see a little bigger.

Let me shout you a coffee

coffee.jpgThey say there’s no such thing as a free lunch but there is a free morning tea.

My apologies if you don’t live close enough to Perth to take advantage of this but my Morning Café radio program on 98five Sonshine FM is even tastier during our annual Radiothon this week.

I’m inviting people to join me and my Morning Cafe guests for morning tea each day and there’s still space for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

The morning teas run from 10:00 a.m. to around 11:30 a.m. and are always a lot of fun. It’d be great to catch up and it’s a wonderful opportunity for me to show off my workplace in Como.

We’ve done a similar thing over the last few years and had such a wonderful time. The food from Miss Maud is always outstanding and the coffee is spectacular. On top of that it’s a lot of fun meeting a variety of listeners and letting people see how radio works.

If you’d like to be part of the fun simply click here to email me at my work email address and tell me which day you can join me then enjoy a delicious, free morning tea at the Como studios of 98.5 Sonshine FM.

Why not get a group together and email me the details. I’d love to say hello.

Bob Cooper – Outback Survival

Bob Cooper has worked as a commercial fisherman and professional diver but it’s his bushcraft skills, developed over more than 30 years of experience, that have helped him make his mark.

He has learned and practiced his craft in a variety of ways including living with traditional Aboriginal people in our Western Desert, instructing with Special Forces Units, lecturing with the Texas Parks and Wildlife Service on desert survival in the Mexican Desert, delivering Wilderness lessons in the UK and learning bushcraft skills from the Bushmen of the Kalahari Desert in Botswana.

We might not be planning such adventures anytime soon but are there are basic skills that are valuable for us all to learn?

Bob has recently published a book titled Outback Survival, outlining the skills and preparations required to stay alive when something goes wrong.

Bob joined me in the studio today as part of my radio program on 98five Sonshine FM. You can hear our discussion and pick up a few tips that could save your life by clicking the play button on the audio player below.

Tom Burlinson swings by for a chat

Tom Burlinson started appearing on our televisions in the late seventies but his big break came in the early eighties with the massive success of the movie, The Man from Snowy River.

He’s performed in a variety of stage productions and even been a judge for a number of seasons on Australia’s Got Talent.

He was recently named Australia’s Most Outstanding Club Performer of the Year and Vocal Performer of the Year at the 2012 Annual ACE Awards.

He’s in town for his new show, Now We’re Swingin’.

Come fly with Tom Burlinson and a fabulous band of top musicians as Tom salutes the masters of vocal swing: Frank Sinatra, Nat ‘King’ Cole, Dean Martin, Tony Bennett, Sammy Davis Jr, and Bobby Darin. Also celebrating the swing superstars of today – Harry Connick Jr, Michael Bublé and Robbie Williams.

Following on from his successful Frank Sinatra shows, Tom has expanded his horizons and his song list to create a feast for lovers of swing, including Sway, Just in Time, Beyond the Sea, L-O-V-E, Birth of the Blues, The Way You Look Tonight, Ain’t That a Kick in the Head? and Feeling Good. It also features Sinatra classics such as I’ve Got You Under My Skin, Summer Wind, That’s Life and Mack the Knife.

This morning on my radio program he was my special guest. You can listen to our conversation by clicking the play button on the audio player below.

Tom Burlinson will play one show with his eight piece band at the Octagon Theatre, University of WA, 8:00 p.m. on Saturday night.
