Radiothon 2011

SFM_Logo.jpgI’m not sure how much posting I’ll be doing over the next week as I’ll be pretty busy with this year’s 98.5 Sonshine FM Radiothon.

Radiothon will be 5 days focussed on providing the funds needed to secure the financial future of 98.5 Sonshine FM.

As well as our ongoing support we rely on funds raised mostly from two major events each year, our June Appeal, and Radiothon. Our supporters really blew us away with the response to the June Appeal this year but now we need to secure our financial future with Radiothon 2011.

We’ve set our target for this year at $215 000. We’re excited about what surprises this year’s Radiothon will bring.

Visit the Sonshine FM website for more details.

Radiothon started at 7:00 a.m. today and will conclude at 6:00 p.m. this Friday.

Free Morning Tea

coffee.jpgThey say there’s no such thing as a free lunch but there is a free morning tea.

My apologies to those who don’t live close enough to Perth to take advantage of this but my Morning Café radio program on 98.5 Sonshine FM will be even tastier during our annual Radiothon next week.

I’m inviting a group of people each day to join me and my morning programme guests for morning tea from Monday the 14th to Friday the 18th of November.

The morning teas will run from 10:00 a.m. to around 11:30 a.m. and should be a lot of fun. It’d be great to catch up and it’s a wonderful opportunity for me to show off my workplace in Como.

We’ve done a similar thing over the last couple of years and had such a wonderful time. The food from Miss Maud is always outstanding and the coffee is spectacular. On top of that it’s a lot of fun meeting a variety of listeners and letting people see how radio works.

If you’d like to be part of the fun simply click here to email me at my work email address and tell me which day you can join me. If you’re one of the first 20 replies for each day you’ll enjoy a delicious, free morning tea at the Como studios of 98.5 Sonshine FM.

Why not get a group together and email me the details. I’d love to say hello.

Mark Vincent in Perth

A couple of years ago Mark Vincent was just another school boy, but he was a school boy with an amazing talent.

In April 2009 Mark won Australia’s Got Talent. He was just 15, and even more surprisingly, he wasn’t singing the latest pop music, he was singing what some have termed, pop opera. He was a young boy with a remarkably mature voice. His main inspiration then, and still now, was his late grandfather, Bruno, who raised him and taught him how to sing.

In October 2011, Mark has just released his fourth album and is looking to follow in the footsteps of his idol, Anthony Warlow.

Mark Vincent has grown into his skin, and it shows. Finally, the young man with the extraordinary voice has turned 18 and there is a subtle, fresh confidence to his persona, a slight swagger to his step – and yet, he exudes the same humility which has won him legions of passionate fans. It’s this constant young-yet-mature juxtaposition which defines his unique character, and has seen him now release album number 4 – entitled ‘Songs From The Heart’ – with a collection of timeless songs, sure to emulate the success of previous albums. Indeed, first album ‘Mio Visione – My Dream’ reached #2 on the ARIA album charts, followed by ‘Compass’, and then ‘The Great Tenor Songbook’, which went Gold and charted #2 and #18 respectively on the ARIA album charts.

And yet, this young man’s head – fresh out of high school, and ready to embrace a fulltime career as a recording and performing artist – is not at all in the clouds. His feet still firmly on the ground. His heart always connected to his much loved family, and a genuine affinity to his fans which is endearing and true. Despite the huge success of his first three albums, Mark declares his favourite pastimes to be simple ones: hanging out with his buddies, enjoying the company of older folk, and delving – for the first time – into the possibility of young romance. And of course, singing. Always singing – his first, last, undying passion. It’s something stamped in his DNA, the blueprint to his life.

Songs from the Heart is a collection of music that is sure to be loved by his wide fan base. Tracks on the album include Amazing Grace, Till I Hear You Sing, Climb Every Mountain, Bridge Over Troubled Water, My Heart Will Go On and several others.

Mark is in Perth this weekend for Channel Seven’s Telethon. I caught up with him yesterday, the day his new album was released. I chatted to him as part of the Morning Café, my radio program on 98.5 Sonshine FM. You can hear our conversation by clicking the play button on the audio player at the bottom of this post.

Stan Walker on the Morning Café

It hardly seems like almost two years since Stan Walker won the seventh and final series of Australian Idol.

During his Idol journey International superstar Michael Bublé heard him sing and said, “That voice is like God kissed his throat”.

After one performance during Idol he left Joel and Benji Madden of Good Charlotte speechless. Joel said that listening to Stan sing made him want to sing R&B music and Benji said he’d watch him perform whether he won the competition or not.

Since then Stan Walker has continued to build a strong career with a number of hit singles and a growing fan base. He released the single Loud earlier this year and the new single Light It Up just a couple of weeks ago.

Stan Walker joined me in the studio this morning for the Morning Café on 98.5 Sonshine FM.

I talked to Stan about his new single, the upcoming album and the song he recorded with Jessica Mauboy.

I also asked about his new role as an actor and whether he has big plans for his 21st birthday next month.
