Supporting each other

One of the blogs I’ve recently started reading and added to my Blog List is Dave Quinn’s The PASSION Blog.

His most recent post is about the connections we have with others and how important community is for us and those around us. He talks about some of the seemingly random acts of violence that we hear about too often and wonders how differnt things could have been if those who have carried out such attacks had a supporting network around them.

I’m thankful that even though I’m very much a loner in some senses, I still have a number people I can turn to in difficult times. They include work colleagues, church friends, cycling friends and of course lots of family.

The other thing that Dave asks about is what kind of support we’re offering others. It’s great to know that there’ll be people there for us when we need them but are we offering support too? Are we offering support to people who may not have others there for them?

Dave finishes his post with a handful of questions.

Who is someone I can honestly share the ups and downs of life with?
What support networks have I got in place for times when I am struggling?
Are there any people in my life that might need my help or support?
Who is someone who can pray for me when I need help?

Can you answer all those questions? You might not feel that you need people around you at the moment but we all know that circumstances can change in a moment.
