Shaping up for a new year

The curtains are about to come down on another year and we stand at the eve of a new year full of promise and opportunity.

As millions of people begin making New Year’s Resolutions you can be sure that many such resolutions will revolve around living healthier lives and increasing fitness. Someone who has maintained excellent fitness into his 40s is former Ironman Champion and this year’s Australian Celebrity Survivor winner, Guy Leech. At 42 he says that he has the same physique as when he was 21. He’s even been called one of the fittest men in the world.

Guy will be my special guest during my 98.5 Sonshine FM morning radio programme on Tuesday.

I recorded an interview with Guy Leech a couple of days back. We talked about setting health goals for the year ahead and persevering to ensure results. We discussed the need to eat right, exercise regularly and to give ourselves license to treat ourselves now and then.

At the heart of Guy’s message is a deep concern about the growing obesity statistics here in Australia and throughout much of the western world. We need to do something now to turn the health of our nation around and ensure a better future for the generations to come.

Guy doesn’t offer any magic formula to weight loss but he offers great encouragement suggesting that we can all improve our health. To prove the point he talks about how he’s been helping Ian ‘Dicko’ Dickson lose weight and enjoy a healthier lifestyle.

Have you set any health goals for 2007? Are you healthier at the end of 2006 than you were at the beginning? It’d be great to hear from you about your resolutions for the new year. Feel free to have your say by clicking the comments link below this post.

Actually, I started jogging some months ago and while I haven’t really lost weight, I feel much better. The wife has lost a few kilo’s, which I don’t think tells the whole story, she’s toned up a lot and is looking great!

    A happy hubby 🙂
