Just pop a cheque in the mail

Seems I’m saving you tax dollars … at least $200 000 000 worth of tax dollars, though that’s very likely to be a conservative estimate.

How am I achieving this? According to a recent study, my love of cycling is saving this country truckloads of cash.

  • That’s pretty neat! I admire folks who bicycle instead of drive.

It’s a little more difficult to do so in the Northeast of the U.S. Here we have six months of winter (sometimes we have substantial snow from October to late April), and temperatures can drop to 30-below zero F. So our entire transportational “eco-system” totally revolves around the motorized vehicle. And communities have built on this— many people commute 30-70 miles A DAY to work (astonishing, to me), and grocery stores can be as far away as 30 miles.

I envy those who have more temperate climates, with their longer growing season and opportunity for outdoor activities.

  • Mrs M, it looks like you need to move to Perth. πŸ™‚

We’re a few days into winter and I cycled to work today in shorts and a short sleeved cycling top. It was a little cool but it’ll be just perfect by the time I need to cycle home this afternoon.

  • LOL, I do love the Australian landscape. But I’d miss my beloved green forests; and I do like snow.

Then again, maybe “global warming” wouldn’t be so terribly bad, after all, eh? πŸ˜‰

  • Loved the comments there on suggesting number plates for bike-riders – and pedestrians! πŸ™‚

Just some time ago there was a research from Denmark stating that fit and healthy people who donΒ΄t smoke do cost a lot more than the fat, unhealthy one.

We tend to live longer and also tend to need help with increasing age.
    They were serious, too!

  • Hello Iris. Unfortunately there’ll always be people who try to discourage those of us who try to look after ourselves. They’re probably just trying to feel better about living their own unhealthy lifestyles. πŸ™‚
