Go to the Moon

I thought it was about time I shared another ‘oldie but goodie.’

Back in 1988, Geoff Moore and the Distance released the album, A Place to Stand.

One of my favourite tracks from that release is Go to the Moon. It looks at the insular nature of many Christians.

Go to the Moon

In a fast food restaurant not long ago

Somewhere in central Ohio

I came across a table of 5 or 6 boys

They were just being rowdy, making lots of noise

Until one said hey, I’ve got a question for you

If we nuked Russia where would you go, what would you do

Another one said, I think I’ve got the solution

You see my friends, the answer lies in seclusion

You get your friends and family

You gather up some food, pack ’em in a rocket and

Go to the moon

leave this place behind

Go to the moon

To live with your own kind

Go to the moon

Come bock some other time

Go to the moon

Now as I heard those boys talking it reminded me

of a conversation I had more recently

This guy was sayin’, hey, there’s something I want you to know.

I’m a Christian from a Christian home

I’m in a Christian club, a Christian school, got a Christian code a phone

And if people don’t like it, they can just leave me alone

You see he’s afraid the world is rubbing off on him

When all the time I thought we should be rubbing off on them

Just get your friends and family,

Gather up some food, pack ’em in a rocket ’cause you might as well

Go to the moon

Leave this place behind

(wait for the end of time)

Go to the moon

To live with your own kind

(leave the sick to die)

Go to the moon

Come back some other time

(get yourself some peace of mind)

Go to the moon

Mission control says now is the time

One small step towards your fellow man

Is one giant leap for mankind

Well now before this little story comes to a close

There’s just one thing or two that I’d like you to know

I believe in fellowship, in brotherhood and accountability

And that believer to believer can be encouraging

But if salt is going to season

Shine the light in darkened rooms

Don’t hide among the chosen

We cannot ….

Go to the moon

Leave this place behind

(wait for the end of time)

Go to the moon

To live with your own kind

(leave the sick to die)

Go to the moon

Come back some other time

(get yourself some peace of mind)

Go to the moon
