Spinning

Have you heard about the new apartment building in Brazil? Each of Suite Vollard’s 11 storeys turns independently, giving residents 360 degree views of the eco-friendly city of Curitiba.

It’s the world’s only completely revolving tower. Most of us are used to revolving restaurants but this is something else again.

Each apartment occupies an entire 287 square metre floor. Lights, air-conditioning and the revolving of the apartment can be turned on and off with a remote control or an oral command.

The owner can even change the direction and speed of the revolutions. Apparently, at low speed, each floor takes an hour to revolve. Now I’m wondering what you could get it up to on fast speed. Could you crank it up so much that the furniture starts to head towards the edge of the apartment?

I reckon it’d be a wonderful idea – as long as you didn’t suffer too much from motion sickness. I’ve also got a few concerns about the monthly power bill.
