You've had a haircut

I don’t know about you but whenever I get a cut or trim people say, “You’ve had a haircut”.

Occasionally people will say, “I like your haircut” or something like that, but more often than not people simply make the statement“You’ve had a haircut” as if it’s something that I need to be told.

I think we’ve all said it to someone at one time or another but it’s kind of funny when you think about it. I got a cut yesterday and sure enough a friend came out with the line. I resisted the temptation to say, “Oh so that explains what was happening when I sat in the big chair and the guy with the scissors kept wandering around me”. I didn’t even say, “Yes, I know that already”.

I’ve got to wonder, though, if people choose to inform me that I’ve had a haircut rather than complimenting the cut because they want to show that they’ve noticed, but they really don’t like the cut at all and they don’t have the heart to tell me.
