Cola Chill

Have you seen the latest addition to the Brownes Chill range?

For those outside Western Australia, Brownes is a dairy producer and they have a range of milk drinks such as Choc Chill, Coffee Chill, Berry Chill and Banana Chill.

The latest Chill drink, which is obviously not considered worthy enough to grace their web page, is Cola Chill.

I spotted a few Cola Chills at the local supermarket today. They were marked down in price to clear. I spotted some a few weeks ago, also marked down to clear. (No, they’re not the same ones. The last ones would have well and truly expired by now.)

Last time I saw them I decided, against my better judgement, to try one. From the first sip I knew why they had to reduce their price to get them out the door. It was OK … sort of … but it certainly didn’t have me thinking, “Mmmm. I’ll have to buy more of this.”

I’m sorry Brownes. It was a bold experiment but it didn’t work. Leave cola to the fizzy drink makers. Stick to what you know best.

  • My brother works for a food packaging multi-national.

He says companies from time-to-time launch alternative versions of products to maintain interest in the original product.

They actually know in advance the alternative product will be a failure….and work out beforehand how much alternative product they will have to write-off…but it’s all for the sake of keeping up interest in the original brand.
