How much is stopping worth?

How much money would it take to stop you doing what you’re doing for a minute or so?

There’s an intersection that I cycle through every day and just next to the kerb there’s a 5 cent piece. It’s been there for days, maybe weeks. I’ve never considered it worth stopping my bike and waiting for the traffic to clear just to pick it up. Obviously no one else thinks it’s worth the trouble either.

This morning on my way to work I spotted a 20 cent piece on the side of a stretch of road. There was a moderate amount of traffic flowing through the area and I didn’t consider it worth stopping to grab it.

I reckon if I saw a dollar or a two dollar coin I’d probably pull up and pocket it. If I spotted a note I’d definitely start to brake fairly rapidly. I did find a $5 note once. I guess I’ll just have to keep my eyes peeled for the tens, twenties, fifties and hundreds.

  • Hehe, this made me remember back to when I was younger, my friends used to take joy in lobbing 5c and 10c pieces up the road, and then laugh at me as I was the cheapskate who would go pick them up!

I reckon I was just being fiscally aware – they thought I was a scrooge! 🙂
