Look after yourself

Did you hear that there was a bit of a scare in Washington after a pilot and a student pilot flew their plane flew within three miles of the White House? It prompted evacuations throughout Washington. A Black Hawk helicopter and two F-16 fighter jets forced the Cessna to land. The pilot and trainee were turned over to FBI and Secret Service agents for questioning.

The thing that caught my attention was the fact that while everyone was evacuating the White House, President George W. Bush was out taking a bike ride. He returned to the White House once it was all over more than an hour later.

I guess it’s a reminder to me of the value of leisure time. We can all get so wrapped up in important business that we don’t take time out to look after ourselves physically, mentally or spiritually. We can kid ourselves into thinking that the world can’t get along without us for a little while.

If the world’s most powerful leader can take time out to recharge by going for a bike ride, we don’t have a lot of excuses. I’m looking forward to taking his lead this weekend and cycling all over Rottnest. When are you next taking time out to recharge?

  • Hi!
I was on an outing for my birthday, and chose to hike in the deep woods.
A large part of the time we could hear a lot of activity over our heads, but couldn’t see what it was because of being in the forest among the tall trees.

Later, I put it all together, after hearing the news, that likely the sounds we heard were the skies being policed and this airplane being escorted to nearby Frederick.

Hope you have a nice ride on Rottnest. Sounds a like a great outing. Of course you’ll have good temperatues, you live in the land of perfect weather!
    🙂

  • Interesting take on those events Rodney. It appears that some parts of the Media have been viewing the events in a negative light. Saying that George W. isn’t keeping his finger on the pulse.
I think if there was a threat of terroist attack on my house, I would be worried. So maybe it’s good not to know! Maybe George was better off not knowing. But I guess his wife might not be happy that he didn’t call while she was being evacuated 🙂 I can only imagine how the Grin would feel if that was replayed at my house… P

  • Next Thursday at approximately 12:30 I’ll be taking some time out. Maybe just to go home and lie on the couch. Then again, running through an open field and screaming would be equally fitting. Finals will be over.
