Bride & Prejudice

We finally got around to watching Bride & Prejudice last night.

The movie was released in Australia just a short time before my last trip to India. I didn’t have opportunity to see it at that time and have been wanting to see it ever since.

Pauline’s mum gave us a copy of the movie on DVD and it’s been sitting there for weeks waiting to be watched.

It was absolutely brilliant.

The movie doesn’t quite capture the real India in a lot of ways but then I’m sure that Hollywood movies don’t capture the real USA. However, it did bring back a lot of Indian memories and I found myself identifying with several of the characters.

There were certainly a few scenes that showed the India that I love. The busy streets, the colours, the mannerisms, the different life values.

Then there was the music. It was obviously aimed at a western audience but there was enough Indian flavour in the music to have me completely captivated. I didn’t realise how much I’d come to appreciate Indian music until they started a few of their Bollywood dance numbers.

Now that I’ve seen the movie once, I can’t wait for the opportunity to sit down and watch it all over again.

  • I love this movie – it was so much fun to watch. I also have nice memories of the night I saw it, a bunch of friends had gotten together. We had an Indian dinner to get in the mood and went to Luna Cinemas to watch it.

A good night, good friends, and a good movie!

  • I loved this movie – I’m a Pride & Prejudice fan, so this version made me laugh. I took some friends – an indian girl who didn’t like it because it wasn’t “real bollywood”, and another friend who didn’t enjoy it as much as she could have, because she didn’t know the original version (we soon fixed that though!).
