When technology doesn't make sense

Why would you want the internet in your fridge? Does anyone really watch movies on the tiny little screen on their phones? What’s going on with DVD players in cars?

Technology is wonderful but sometimes you have to wonder why intelligent techno geeks create some of the gadgets they do.

On Tech Zone next week (10:10 a.m. Perth time, Friday 12th August) David Cook and I will be looking at some silly technology. This is where you come in. What super advanced, yet somewhat useless or puzzling technology gets you scratching your head?

Please let me know what technology doesn’t make sense for you, then be listening on Friday morning as David and I have lots of fun describing strange, weird and wonderful technology.

Tune in to 98.5 on your FM dial if you’re in the Perth area or go online to 98.5 Sonshine FM’s website to listen on-line.

  • i have seen a few wierd USB devices, like a kettle and the like. Not sure how you would find them, but they are out there.

  • i’ve seen some strange USB devices including a USB powered light, foot massager. I saw them at Tandy’s if thats any help.

  • You have already mentioned it, but the internet refrigerator gets me! Is this for people who are so engrossed in browsing the internet that they cannot be bothered to get up and make a snack? Seems like a very wierd combination to me, and at AU$17,000 for one of these fridges it seems even more bizarre.
Another tech-toy that got me was the prototype surfboard with built in computer (done by Intel I think). Was this some geeky idea of a joke so that people could “surf” the net?
