Garlic

I’ve been battling a cold / flu / virus thingy for over two weeks now. Not nice.

For the past week now I’ve had an inflamed throat. Normally when I get a sore throat it’s gone within a day and then other symptoms kick in. This bug started with a sore throat which dissapeared the next day but came back a week or so later.

I dropped into the shops earlier to get a couple of bits and pieces to help the departure of this nasty bug.

I grabbed a packet of throat lozenges that are anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial. I hope they help to ease the symptoms a little. After all, it is difficult to do a job like mine that depends on using my throat and voice when my throat doesn’t want to cooperate.

I also bought some garlic tablets. I’m told that they do the trick as far as shifting cold symptoms. One of the guests we had at last weekend’s Radiothon swears by garlic tablets. He says he takes one a day and hasn’t had a cold in about 4 years. I’ll try anything at this stage.

As soon as I was able to I gulped down a couple of tablets with a healthy serving of water. I must admit that the first smell coming from the bottle when I opened it was not of the healing kind but I’ll put up with that.

Within a few minutes of swallowing the tablets I began burping. Not big burps; just little, polite burps. They’re the kind that no one knows about but me. The problem is that these burps taste about as bad as the tablet bottle smells. I’m hoping that this won’t carry on for too long.

Maybe the way that the tablets work is that you open the bottle each morning, take a sniff, and that motivates you to avoid anything that would put you in the position of having to take any more of the tablets.

  • The other good thing to consider is that you wont be bothered by any pesky vampires either πŸ™‚

  • Although I believe you can buy something called “odour-less garlic tablets”…

I always thought garlic was a preventative ‘medicine’. Perhaps, you take the tablets and no one (with a cold or otherwise) comes near you, thanks to the smell… thus preventing you from getting infected in the first place…? πŸ™‚

  • This cold and ‘flu season has been a particularly nasty one. Surprising considering it’s coincided with officially the mildest “winter” in a decade!

  • Gid’day Rodney, Remember me? ….Long time no see! I have heard that the ‘odourless garlic’ is not as effective as the ‘real thing’ because when they remove the ‘odourless’ component, they actually remove the active ingredient (called allicin). Brad now on something called AstraForte (Astragalus). Very good stuff but expensive. Please keep praying for him – not out of the woods yet.

  • Hey mate, haven’t you heard of Colloidal Silver? Look it up on the net. Great stuff. I get into it the moment I have the slightest niggle or tickle in the throat. Hence no colds! And don’t forget…. I sat RIGHT BESIDE you for 40 mins there a couple of weeks ago over the puter when you weren’t too well! I must be doing something right! Will see Brad E Friday as I head to Adelaide.

  • Garlic? Try ginger, much better for the throat. Minced ginger in warm honey. Or ginger hahn tea (not to be confused with the beer!).

All will set you straight and your breath will be much more agreeable for everyone!

  • Aahhh, I thought your throat sounded a bit husky last weekend. You’re probably run down and the long weekend at work most likely didn’t help! What you need is a good rest! I hope you do get one this weekend.

  • Rest sounds good for you.

    A vacation?

I was curious though about your lozenges (anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial), I don’t think we have anything like that here in the US.

  • be careful with throat lozenges, mate. most of them have menthol in them and that dries your throat out and it’s not good at all for your voice.good luck with the garlic!
