….. I was posting this.
While I’m remeniscing about the last couple of years I thought I’d re-post something that I wrote on the first anniversary of this blog.
Christian Bloggers?
This interesting article at Christianity Today looks at the growing phenomenon of pastors and other Christians taking up blogging.
With more than 2 million people actively blogging on the Internet, the weblog is an excellent means for pastors to stretch their minds and (maybe) to reach their flocks.
There’s a lot of interesting stuff in the article and it suggests that there are probably hundreds of thousands of Christians blogging. Many don’t classify their blogs as strictly Christian blogs. I would count myself in that number.
Any regular reader would know that what I write is generally about my life and the stuff I do from day to day. You may have also noticed that I write from the perspective that my faith gives me. Of course I can’t help doing that. My faith shapes my world view so everything I do is touched by my beliefs.
I like what T-Bone Burnett, one of the guys who was instrumental in Bob Dylan’s conversion, says about his music. “You can sing about the Light, or you can sing about what you see because of the Light. I prefer the latter.”
As for me, I can blog about the Light, or I can blog about what I see because of the Light. I prefer the latter. That doesn’t stop me from making direct comment on issues of faith but I would rather let people see that I’m just an ordinary guy in touch with an extraordinary God. I believe that it’s in the every day stuff of life that others can see the validity of our faith.
I’m not out to push my ideas on anyone else but I do hope that I can share my journey and invite others to join me along the way.
I will never shy away from the fact that I believe in Jesus Christ and that his death has paid my penalty. I believe the Bible and its directions for my life. I am connected to God through Jesus Christ and that gives me a direct relationship with him.
However, that is not going to make any difference to anyone who reads my blog if they can’t see that I’m also living what I believe and that it impacts me at every point in my life.
I’m always more than happy to discuss faith and spirituality but because they are intrinsically linked to every part of my life, I can’t seperate those issues from the way I live.
That’s the beauty of it all. Jesus doesn’t want us to add lots of spiritual extras onto our already busy lives. He simply wants to awaken the spiritual dimension inside all of us to the reality of who he is. He wants to make us whole and I want to be a part of that.
