I'd prefer a Limca

Everywhere I’ve travelled in India, which I admit is only a small segement of a large and diverse country, there are signs for Pepsi.

They’re on billboards, shops and a variety of other buildings. Today’s picture is from a dhaba where we stopped for lunch on the road between Delhi and Chandigarh. Dhabas are roadside restaurants that you find alongside highways throughout India. They’re a little like a truck stop and they serve the most delicious food.

Just about every spare surface at this dhaba, and most others, was covered in Pepsi advertising. These sign writers worked quickly to renew signs around the eating area.

I don’t think I ever had a Pepsi in India. I much preferred to drink Limca. Limca is a carbonated lime drink produced by Coca Cola. It is deliciously refreshing and I only wish I could buy it by the case load here in Australia.

There’s not too much that can quench a thirst quite like an ice cold Limca in a genuine glass bottle.

I should mention though that there are groups of people that would like to see both Pepsi and Coca Cola out of India. They believe that such companies are adding to the westernisation of their country. Many also fear the environmental impact of these companies in India.

  • Here in Kenya Pepsi has a very small share of the market. Coke dominates the soft drink world here. I wish Pepsi had more of a share, then their prices would go down.
