Were you a little impatient when you were a child? I think it comes with the territory.
While we were sitting around the dinner table a couple of nights ago James asked when we would buy some magazines for our holiday. Last year when we were on holiday on Rottnest Pauline bought the kids some children’s magazines to read.
Fair enough question from James I suppose … apart from the fact that our holiday isn’t for another 2 months. Emily and James then started talking excitedly about what we might do while we’re away.
While I’m sure that it’ll arrive before we know it, I had to remind them that our holiday is still some time away. I had to be the voice of reason and try to help them not to get too excited this far out from the event.
I certainly haven’t been making a big fuss over all the ins and outs of our week away, but just between you and me, I’ve been pretty excited about the opportunity to spend some time relaxing with my family on the inside for months already.

Rodney, this settles it for me. I need to plan a holiday for my son and me. We haven’t had time away for over two years. Thanks for getting me headed in the right direction!!
I think its good for children to have something to look forward to.
I’ve heard parents these days, they don’t tell children anything in advance, they say they can’t take the “hassle” of them being over excited for a long time.
I find this wrong thinking. It’s good to let children have ‘expectations’ and also how to “deal” and channel their enthusiasm with them.
I think we all have that child like excitement about up oming events. Jo & I are off to NZ in April for 2 weeks. We booked 6 months ago, I’m counting down to the 10th April.
