Who Moved the Stone?

My regular Wednesday morning guest on 98.5 Sonshine FM is Ross Clifford is the Principal of Morling College in New South Wales and current President of the Baptist Union of Australia. Each week we chat about a range of issues relating to spirituality and belief.

Today we talked about the book Who Moved the Stone? by Frank Morison. According to popular belief, Morison was a lawyer who was skeptical of the claims of Christians regarding Jesus Christ. The story goes that he set out to prove the Bible wrong.

That story’s almost true. The fact is that Frank Morison never actually existed. Frank Morison was simply the pseudonym used by a journalist when he wrote the book.

Apart from that, the story is very similar. The writer was indeed a skeptic. He did not believe in anything supernatural and he set out to show that the available evidence did not support most Christian beliefs. He wanted to discover the ‘real’ Jesus without all the ‘extras’ that people have added to him over the years. What he found was quite different.

By looking at the writings of the Bible and other historical documents of that time he felt convinced that there is a strong case for Jesus being who Christians claim him to be.

My discussion with Ross looks at the book ‘Frank’ wrote along with the books of a couple of other skeptics who had also tried to disprove the death and resurrection of Jesus.
