A real surprise package

I didn’t remember ordering anything.

Pauline emailed me at work yesterday to say there was a box at home for me. It was a parcel that had been sent from New York. Why would someone send me something from New York?

I didn’t know if it was a big or small box, heavy or light. All I knew was that there was a parcel waiting for me and it could have been something wonderful or it could have been somewhat of a let down.

Pauline’s email arrived in the morning and I wasn’t going to be getting home until the afternoon. The suspense was killing me.

I suppose I could have asked Pauline to open it for me but then I’d miss the surprise of opening it for myself. On the other hand if it wasn’t anything exciting it would have put me out of my misery.

Finally I made it home. I wandered into the house and looked for the box. It was a reasonable size. Not too big. Not too small. Whoever packed it had done a good job with the packing tape so I grabbed my trusty pocket knife to slice through the tape and open the box.

Inside were two books. That’s when it clicked. I’d noticed an offer on a website a month or so back. They were offering a couple of free books and were saying that they were surprised at how few people had taken up the offer. I gave them my details and then forgot about it.

The box was remarkably large for the size of the books but I guess that added to the surprise.

I don’t often have parcels turning up on my doorstep but I love it when they do. What about you? Do you enjoy letting your mind racing through the possibilities? Do you wonder if it’s a prize or if some kind person has sent you a gift?

Oh well, looks like I’ve got some reading to do.

  • I love getting parcels but sometimes I get a bit suss if there’s no return address. Last year I found two boxes of chocolates in my letterbox with no clue as to who they were from. The suspense was killing me until I found out they were from a friend who had decided to feed my chocolate addiction 🙂

  • You missed the most important pieces of information – what are the books and what’s the website? 😛

I hate waiting for packages too, so I usually get them sent to my work – that way I don’t have to wait until I get home to open them.

  • Well, it’s weird for me because I usually deliver my own packages to my house. One time I got a huge package full of fruit and pepper jelly for helping someone design her blog, and I couldn’t wait until I got home to open it so I opened it right there at my desk.

I have the patience of a mouse.

Yay for new books! Oh, and yay for not being let down by surprise parcels!

  • I do enjoy recieving parcels but I enjoy giving them just as much if not more. Because I know in the bible it says the lord jesus himself said there is more happiness in giving than receiving. Seeing the expression on a persons face after they open a present is something I really enjoy

    Happy Reading Rodney!

  • What were the books?
I love sending parcels and having them sent to me. I can’t stand suspense though so would have gone home as soon as I could to pick them up and then opened them up straight away. I think I would have asked my husband to open them for me if he told me they were there.
I went to Borders and Koorong on Thursday and had a lot of fun choosing books to read.
