Merry-go-round or roller coaster?

Are you a merry-go-round or roller coaster kind of person?

What kind of life do you want to live? Would you settle for the safe, boring, uneventful ride of the merry-go-round or do you prefer the thrills of the roller coaster, even though it brings a mixture of highs and lows?

It’s nice to feel safe and secure but we were created to experience more than that.

Life certainly deals us all some tough circumstances but can we use those times to build a stronger future? How do we hang on to faith during the hard times when God seems a million miles away?

My regular Wednesday morning guest on 98.5 Sonshine FM is Ross Clifford who is the Principal of Morling College in New South Wales and current President of the Baptist Union of Australia. Each week we chat about a range of issues relating to spirituality and belief.

Today we looked at riding the roller coaster of life. How do we cope with the ups and downs? How should we approach the difficulties of our lives?

  • I would probably describe my life as a supermarket trolley that’s rolling along with nobody in control of it.

It’s fun because you never quite know where you are going next.

  • I would describe my life as somewhere between a merry-go-round and a rollercoaster. It certainly has its ups and downs but also some ordinary patches where nothing dramatic happens. Sometimes it’s these times which prepare me for the next high or low.
