Sizzling

It’s officially Autumn. It’s meant to be cooling down. It’s not.

We’ve just had three days of temperatures over 40 degrees. The mercury rocketed up to 42.4 degrees Celsius (108.32 degree Fahrenheit) yesterday. It was Perth’s hottest March day on record. Today is forecast to be around 38 (just over 100 Fahrenheit) which is still hotter than I prefer. Thankfully the maximum for tomorrow is tipped to be around 27.

How have we been coping with the heat?

We took the opportunity to head to the coast with some friends last night. We went to a dog beach with their pooch and a couple of car loads of kids.

It was so nice to get wet and cool down. After a swim we sat on the beach eating fish and chips for dinner. Then we sat around and chatted as we watched the sun drop into the ocean. It was a much nicer way to end the day than sitting around in a hot house.

The time at the beach was a fairly good argument for daylight saving which is being trialled in Western Australia at the moment but Iā€™m not ready to embrace the idea completely until they can give me back the hour of daylight they stole from the morning.

    Daylight Savings time starts here on Saturday night. I look forward to the longer days. I wish we were always on Daylight Savings time myself. Love it!

  • Here springtime is finally near and the days are getting longer.
    On 25th this month we switch to summer-time! Yay šŸ™‚
    40 degrees, though, is really hot! Reminds me of gasping for air in front of the caravan in the Kingsway Tourist Park in December… hmmm.

  • Wow…fish and chips on the beach, just like the UK. Do you mean fish and chips like we mean fish and chips? Battered cod or haddock wrapped in paper and covered in salt and vinegar or do you have an Aussie twist?

  • Today only got up to 37.6 (which of course is still blisteringly hot). šŸ™‚

    Crofty, the fish and chips was certainly battered deep fried fish and chips, sprinkled with salt and wrapped in paper. I’m not a fan of vinegar on fish and chips but I do like a splash of lemon juice if it’s available.

  • I don’t like the heat at all. Especially when you have to work in it all day, then come home to an un-airconditioned home. Thank goodness it’s all over. Please, no more heat waves this year.
