Amateur Video Shows Flood Devastation

2011 hasn’t started well in many parts of Australia. Not even two weeks in and it’s been a fairly wild start to the new year.

Here in Western Australia we’re dealing with destructive fire in our south and floods in our north.

Across the country in Queensland the devastating floods continue. The vision coming out of Toowoomba is astounding.

Check out the amateur video above as a couple of people capture the storm waters swelling and dragging car after car out of a car park and sending them down what moments earlier was just a small creek. At this time, eight people are dead and dozens are missing in that part of Queensland. It’s hard to get your head around the scale of the devastation.

The floods have not yet reached their peak and thousands of people are still being evacuated as the scale of the disaster grows.

  • Rodney, it has been a long time since we started reading each other’s blogs. Floods are troublesome, and expensive. I hope all is well with you.

    • Hello Keith. Yes it’s been a while since we first crossed paths online.

Australia’s such a huge country that while a large part of our eastern states are flooded or facing floods, we’re experiencing very hot summer conditions.

      • After leaving my comment I actually watched the video… wow. I am shocked! Cars picked up, and floated away? Upon even recovering the vehicles, I can only imagine the possible damages…

        • Rodney, I believe you are in Perth?I looked up the locations of both cities. Here we have four time zones, and tyou have three. The space between your two coasts is huge. I do understand the differences, even if I havew never been to your fine couintry… one source says the travel distance is 4,123 kilometres. I ought to visit australia so i might cease quoting statistics. God bless you, sir

    • Thanks for dropping in, Garry. Yes, it’s a disaster. Lives have been lost and thousands of homes and businesses have been inundated.

I hope you’ll visit my blog again soon and leave a comment or two on any posts that interest you.

  • According to this the floods we have in Germany due to warmer temps and melting ice are rather “nothing”. Though still bad and devasting, too.

Hopefully the rain stops! How horrible…

    • I think the rain is easing a little but the water flowing down the river is causing more and more flooding. It’s already destroyed so much and yet it’s not expected to peak until tomorrow.
