Where's Homer?

It has all been a hoax. Homer and Marge haven’t moved Bart, Lisa and Maggie to Victoria.

You might have seen that Hamo alerted us to a Simpsons house in South Morang. This article tells us that the house doesn’t exist but that it hasn’t stopped lots of people cruising the streets looking for the house.

I’m usually pretty good at spotting potential hoaxes and I check a lot of stuff that comes through my inbox but this one went completely under the radar. I was ready to do a drive past next time I was in Victoria.

In the TV series Homer, Marge, and their children Bart, Lisa and Maggie live at 749 Evergreen Tce, Springfield.

South Morang has an Evergreen Drive.

But Whittlesea mayor Lara Carli said that, unfortunately for fans, the council had to set the record straight.

“Council staff are a little bemused by the telephone calls and e-mail inquiries, yet remain sympathetic to the Simpsons fans who have to face the reality of an internet prank,” she said.

Cr Carli said telephone calls from curious fans who wanted to visit the house, and from tourism agencies, began two months ago.

“One man revealed he had spent hours driving around Evergreen Tce, South Morang, before getting on the telephone to plead with planning officers for help to locate it,” she said.
