This Sunday I’ll have the pleasure of being the MC for Musical Delights at Dusk on the ‘grassy slopes of Guildford Grammar School’.
It’s described as ‘A powerful musical journey with a Grand Fireworks Finale. Featuring the Australian Army band Perth, guest artist vocalist Taryn Fiebig plus the Australian Army Band Perth vocal troupe of Mark Underwood and the Andrew Sisters’.
It’ll be a tough job but if I have to spend the evening with my family, sipping a glass of red, while listening to some great music I guess I’ll do it.
The concert is a fundraiser for Citizens Advocacy Eastern Suburbs who do a great job in standing up for the rights of others.
The mandate of Citizen Advocacy Eastern Suburbs (Inc.) is to pro-actively identify people with disabilities whose wellbeing is at risk, by way of physical, sexual, financial, mental abuse, or who are isolated, lonely and vulnerable to abuse and/or exploitation and whose human rights are not being upheld.
A limited, but appropriate amount of time is spent with the person with a disability, determining their unmet, fundamental human needs. Concurrently, a person of good character (“citizen advocate”) is sought from the community – by careful, personal recruitment – who has the relevant skills to respond to the specific identified needs of a person with a disability (“protege”).
