Saltbush

I don’t know about you but I’m tired of reading endless news stories about damage caused by school leavers celebrating the end of their schooling life. Even sadder are the dozens of reports of older guys turning up at the ‘schoolies’ hotspots. These predators are on the look out for young girls who have had a bit too much to drink so that they can take advantage of their vulnerability.

I’m certainly glad that there are alternatives to the wild antics that destroy property and in many cases young lives.

One alternative is Saltbush being held in Katanning this weekend.

Saltbush is a Christian run, drug, alcohol & smoke free event for young people which promotes positive lifestyle choices.

I was there to help out last year and I can assure you that the teenagers who head along still have a wild time but without all the negative peer pressure so present at other venues.

They have 3 stages of live music until around 1:00am and then the dance party gets underway.

My main regret about not being there this year is that I won’t get to see Rockin’ Rabbis performing.

  • im not going this year, but i have been often. I have noticed however that it seems to get more younger teens than it does the leavers. It is very hard to for even the christian leavers to go to saltbush because of the peer pressure to go to the usual spots.

Alternatively, there are a lot of christian guys and girls from churches of christ that go to the leavers places to offer whatever they can to help them out. Free food, and just somewhere safe to go. So between the two efforts, God is having an impact on the week.
