London Calling

Yesterday afternoon we headed down to Cottesloe beach to be part of the mad crush of people wanting to get their faces on TV for 20 million people across the other side of the world.

Each Christmas Eve for a number of years, Tod Johnston has been asked by ITV in Britain to be the link person in Perth for their breakfast programme. During their show they cross several times to Cottesloe to show a sea of faces.

Friends and relatives of those who have moved to Australia tune in hoping to see their loved ones.

It must be quite strange to wrapped up inside on a cold Christmas Eve morning watching people in Australia in shorts and bikinis splashing around in the ocean.

There was a couple of thousand people with flags and signs all trying to put themselves in front of the camera.

We went because Pauline has some relatives visiting from England at the moment. It was quite an amazing time but I suspect that today there will be quite a number of people with fair English skin learning why sunscreen is so useful.

  • Rodney….Thanks for visiting Damascus Road. It’s always exciting to have folks from around the other side of the world visit. I suppose Christmas is over for you now. I trust that you and yours had a blessed day. I’ve spent time reading your posts and you really have a nice site.

Hmm…summer time for Christmas? For what it’s worth, it was -4degrees F. here in Denver this morning.

  • Rodney, sounds like a fun time for y’all. I don’t do crowds myself, but enjoy watching those who do. I’m glad I’m not there in the heat!
