Escaping the "date from hell"

There’s a new phone service that might get a bit of a workout this Valentine’s Day.

If you’re on a date that’s going downhill fast, there’s now a quick way out. An Australian mobile phone company now created a service offering an escape. All you have to do is discreetly dial three numbers and then hang up without saying a word.

Virgin Mobile will call you back a minute later with a perfect excuse to get you out of there. They’ll even talk people through what to say.

It seems to be the perfect service for people who are such cowards that they would rather lie than let the other person know it’s not working for them. Don’t worry about the other person – if they’re not fulfilling your immediate needs you might as well lie. It’s easier than facing the truth that you’re probably a selfish creep incapable of dealing with the situation honestly.

I guess in such cases the other person is better off without them anyway.

  • OMGosh! Here I was saying to myself, “yah, great idea! I’d use it”…well, if I wasn’t married already that is. And then, after you’ve lured me in, you spring The Guilt Trap! Oh well, I don’t care. I’d STILL use it!

  • I didn’t really design the post as a guilt trap … rather a ‘dripping with cynicism’ kind of thing. đŸ™‚

I’ve wished for a similar system with long meetings at times but I don’t think I could ever bring myself to use it.

  • dotbar you were not alone, I also thought, “great idea”, but was thinking more along Rodney’s line of escaping boring meetings that were dragging on
