Healing

Ross Clifford, Principal of Morling College, is my regular Wednesday morning guest on 98.5 Sonshine FM. We chat on the phone just after 10:00 am each week about spirituality.

We were talking about healing this morning and he related a story about a lady he knew who had distanced everyone around her. She was left with a broken marriage and very few friends. She wasn’t a pleasant person to be around.

After contracting terminal cancer, she went to a healing service that Ross held at the church where he was pastor at the time. She asked for him to pray for her healing which he did.

Several days later she was admitted to hospital and Ross was called in to see her. The cancer had taken hold and she was slipping away. So what of the healing? She was still an objectionable lady who was about to die of cancer.

Ross asked if she would like him to pray with her and would she like to make her peace with Jesus. She agreed and they prayed. A few days later she died.

Her ex-husband spoke to Ross and said that a miracle had happened. He had spoken to her later on the day that Ross had prayed with her and he said that she was a different person. Her face was radiant. At the time she reached out for her ex-husband’s hand and asked for forgiveness for all the misery she had caused.

It seems that she was healed, but not physically. She was healed emotionally and spiritually. While Ross has seen people healed physically in miraculous ways, it wasn’t the case this time. However, it seems something more significant happened.

My question is, if you were facing physical difficulties or a serious ilness, what kind of healing would you prefer? Would you rather an immediate physical healing, or would you want something deeper, something spiritual?

  • I was going to say the same as Rachel. If all is well with my soul, then dying or being infirm is secondary.

  • That depends. Does one preclude the other? She made peace with her ex-husband, but if she LIVED and had the healing, perhaps she could have made peace with more people and had a testimony as well.

If I had to pick ONE, it would be the spiritual healing!

Caught the show and the interview yesterday. I was going to try to be caller four to win the tickets to The Pacifier, but I don’t know the country code for Australia!

  • Thanks for your comments Rachel and Donna. I would like to think that in the same situation I’d opt for the spiritual healing too. Of course the lady in question wanted the physical healing and got something quite different when she finally surrended her idea of what was best.

Hey Jim, I don’t think that healing has to be one or the other. I’m reminded of where Jesus forgave a guy’s sin, putting him right spiritually, and then told him to get up and walk.

Great to know that you were listening to the programme. I hope you enjoyed it. By the way, the country code is 61 and the area code is 8. 🙂

  • my brother in Thunder Bay (Canada) listens to your broadcast every now and again … i have a dial-up modem – sooooo it would be choppy! … one day i will have high speed … 🙂 … then i’ll tune in!

and, my vote is for SPIRITUAL healing for sure – my husband, who suffers from a condition called arachnoiditis (which causes 24/7 pain) also says SPIRITUAL healing … he speaks from experience … our bodies are slowly deteriorating … we look forward to the heavenly one, which will never wear out!

  • definitely spiritual. my thoughts are along the lines of donna.
i just found your blog today (through cheryl glenn’s). enjoy your posts and look forward to coming back often.

  • hey there, rodney. thanks for dropping by my blog and posting a comment. and now i’m so excited to have a blogger connection in perth. what an amazingly beautiful part of the world…. somewhere i haven’t been yet, but i’ll definitely get to some day.

anyways…. i just wanted to say hi and let you know that i’ll definitely be coming back to check things out again soon. loved what i got a chance to read!

  • wonderful story! to me…what’s the point of being healed physically if you are all messed up spiritually? It’s no kind of “life”

  • This story makes me realize something that I guess many of us don’t give much thought to…that God may heal us spiritually and we fail to see it and give Him thanks and all the glory for that. Because of this story I do realize that He has healed me spiritually. Sadly, we only see the physical need, He sees the greater spiritual need. Isn’t that awesome?
