Secure movies

We had a night at the movies last night. A friend gave us a pass to see a preview of The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. (A great movie by the way)

I’m not sure what was playing in one of the other cinemas in the complex though. It looked like another preview but the people going into the other cinema had to pass through tight security. There were two security guys with hand held metal detectors making sure that no one had any kind of camera or recording device. They were even checking people’s phones to see if they had camera phones.

I suppose pirating has become very sophisticated and it’s a big problem, but it’s still a little unsettling to see people being checked with metal detectors just to watch a movie. The last time I had to go through a metal detector to see a movie it was because the cinema was a large metal tube with wings.
