A cold ride

We dropped to a low of 2.8 degrees celscius earlier this morning. It was just 3 degrees when I was cycling to work. It wasn’t too bad. I was wearing several layers of clothing to stay at the right temperature. The hot shower once I got here was good.

Actually I much prefer cycling in colder conditions than being in a car. I find that in a car you’re just sitting there being rather inactive and it can be hard trying to stay warm. Then once the heater kicks in it can tend to be a little stuffy. On top of that you’re always trying to find the right balance of heater setting to keep the windscreen clear. It fogs up, you give it a blast with the air conditioner to clear it or wipe it with a cloth, then five minutes later it’s all fogged up again. It all sounds like too much work for me. I think I’ll stick to cycling.

  • I was working the midnight till 8am shift this morning and it was absolutely freezing in the warehouse. I had four layers of clothing and a beanie and I didn’t feel warm the whole shift.

  • the trick with de-frogging the windscreen – have your heater on, and also your a/c at the same time. It removes the moisture from the heater that causes your windscreen to fog up.

    works a treat 🙂

  • Cycling makes sense. We have tons of bike paths and designated areas on the roadways for bikes and a lot of folks make good use of them. I’ve even seen a few who persist through the winter, faithfully riding their bikes through all sorts of inclement weather

  • I am metric illiterate. What does that mean in Fahrenheit? Are you saying it’s really cold there? It just got warm here in Ohio like two weeks ago.
